A few months ago, I started something new at youth group. Every week, during the middle school and high school overlap, we sing, light a candle, and pass the candle while sharing our prayer concerns. Before that, whenever I asked for a volunteer to pray, the room went silent. It was out of their comfort zone to pray out loud.
So, as we came to the close of the 30 hour famine tonight, I thought it best to end with our "candle time" before we broke our fast with communion. By 5, we had all gone 29 hours without food and were drained both from lack of food and lots of activities. So, when we started our closing and the pastor asked if anyone had any comments, I wasn't overly surprised that there were very few. As we went on to candle time, I was moved by each one of the group as they spoke of their prayers of thanks, and concern for those who are in need. And, it just struck me as I am sitting here that even though they were tired and didn't want to share a whole lot with the group, they were quick to talk to God! That's a beautiful thing! I'm sure God was there to hear their prayers.
Blessings,
Jennifer
